10 Tips on Basic Study Skills

This will literally take 5 minutes. These 10 very simple tips about study skills will make all the difference in your life and, more importantly, in your kids' school life.
Tip #1: There is always Homework: What that means is that for each subject that your kids have that day, whether they have been given official homework or not, they must review their notes. This will mean that when a big test or an end of unit test comes, they will never have to study for it. It will also help them be ready for the next lesson with their notes fresh in their minds and ready to ask any question that might have come up.
Tip #2: Keep your notes neat and clear: While your kids are applying Tip # 1, they can kill two birds with one stone and improve the quality of their notes, make sure that they have all the information they need and highlight or underline the important points. Notes full of crossed out words and messy ink patches need to be re-written altogether. In the long run, this will ensure, A: more success for final revision and B, more effective note taking habits.
Tip #3: Keep your bag tidy: At least once a week, especially with middle schoolers, have your kids completely empty their bags and tidy them up. You will be amazed what they will find! A lot of the time, some "lost" notes or homework will show up just in time. For this reason, it is better to do this in the middle of the week, Wednesday night for instance. After a little while, your kids will also become naturally tidier.
Tip #4: Use your time efficiently: If your kids get stuck on one particular piece of homework, leave it and move on to the next piece, otherwise frustration will rise and make matters worse. Go back to it after a while and things might be clearer or contact the teacher or a friend to find out more.
Tip #5: Always look ahead: This applies to the use of the planner first and I'll let you look at the pdf file on this topic on my site. But it also applies to doing a little bit extra, even when you seem to be finished with the homework for that day. If a test is coming up, don't leave it to the last minute. Be ahead of yourself and start on it now!
Tip #6: Do research wisely: If any research is involved in a project, just be careful how your kids use the Internet. It is the most fantastic resource, but it is also very distracting and kids get side-tracked very easily and waste a lot of time, being taken from one related topic to the other. So every now and then, just take them to the library to do their research. It will teach them a lot of useful skills too.
Tip #7: Use technology: Now I've said what I had to say about caution with the use of the Internet but please, whenever you can, teach your kids to use a computer effectively to apply to their school work. Let them play with PowerPoint, Publisher, Front Page, etc. Let them learn to type properly and use Word correctly. Put some relevant audio-books on their I-pods and watch the discovery Channel or educational programs with them.
Tip #8: Find YOUR way: Now, this is going to be trial and error at the beginning but for whatever subject and whatever type of homework, your kids will have to find what works for them. If results are not showing, there is something they are not doing right. Some kids may have to write all their notes over to remember facts, others might have to read them aloud, others will need to act them out or build something. Once the right way is there, it works every time.
Tip #9: Have a schedule: Your kids need to learn to prioritize and achieve things that need to be done at an early age. Always plan things according to school work and extra curricular activities that are as important. Anything else comes AFTER. Make this very clear and stick to the rule and you'll see your kids work way more efficiently.
Tip #10: Communicate with the teachers: This applies to you and to your kids. Please if in any doubt on any subject, call the teacher or contact him/her whichever way. For your kids, always encourage them to go and ask if anything is unclear. It can be done after class or the next day, but it is important for them not to be put on the spot. It will also develop very important communication and self-confidence skills.

Learn German Home Study

There are approximately 180 million speakers of the German language. This includes about 100 million people who speak German as their native (first) language, and a further 80 million or so who speak German as a second or third language. German is in fact the majority language in Germany itself, as well as Austria, Luxembourgh, Liechtenstein and Switzerland. There are also a number of German speaking communities in other countries around Europe and the world, including Argentina, Brazil, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, France, Italy, Namibia, and the United States of America.
If you plan to do business in Germany, Austria or Switzerland, then you no doubt find that knowing the German language would be very helpful. For this reason, you ought to consider your options for learning German, and what are the best options for you.
One option is to go German classes. You can find some classes at many local colleges and adult education centers, are they are indeed a popular way to learn the language. To be fair, not everybody likes going to classes, so they aren't for everyone. The other consideration for adult learners, is simply whether classes are practical. If there are no classes within a reasonable travelling distance, or your schedule simply doesn't allow you to attend classes, then obviously you will need to look into other alternatives.
The main alternative to going to classes is home study. Home study has the advantage that you can work at your own pace, fit studies your other commitments, and of course learn in the comfort of your own home. There are many home study courses available on the German language. Traditional home study courses are based around books or tapes, but nowadays you can also choose from a range of computer-based language courses, and these do seem to suit many people.

Inquiry Teaching

The article talked about how inquiry teaching should be done and applied. At first, educators thought that they can either stress inquiry learning by using lots of hands-on experiences or stress content knowledge, decreasing hands-on learning and increase direct instruction. This viewpoint implied that they can do either but not both because they thought that inquiry and content were mutually exclusive of each other.
The writer presented two scenarios. One was using inquiry only which resulted some problems like students did not discover what the teacher intended them to discover which lead to a change of strategy to deemphasize hands-on and adopt on a content driven approach. Second was the traditional way wherein the teacher began some combination of lectures, assigned textbook readings and problem solving and performed experiments in the lab.
With the two scenarios, the writer would like to convey that teachers could do both, practice inquiry science and ensure that students grasped the content knowledge. Hands-on activities could be used in order to build a fundamental understanding of science concepts using a model known as the Learning Cycle.
The learning cycle consisted 5 phases which was denoted by the 5 's namely: Engagement, Exploration, Explanation, Elaboration and Evaluation. In the engagement phase, the teachers exposed the students to questions and activities that engage their prior knowledge of the question. In the exploration phase, the students performed hands-on activities designed to set them up for understanding the concept. In the explanation phase, the teachers drew on the explorative activities to explain the new concept. Activities in the elaboration phase involved students to apply their learning in new situation that reinforced and assessed their learning. Lastly in the evaluation phase, the students were assessed with their learning.

7 Steps to Increase Your Intelligence

In the next few minutes, if you put into effect the advice given in the points below you will indeed increase your intelligence.
This may seem a wild boast but it is true. The effects may not be long lasting, indeed they may only last as long as you consciously continue to act on the advice.
However, with proper training longer term intelligence increases can be yours for the taking. BUT it will time, effort and perseverance on your part.
Dr Bernard Devlin conducted a study of more than 200 articles that have been published in the magazine "Nature" on the subject of Intelligence. He came to the conclusion that yes genes do play a part in your intelligence, but only 42%. The other 58% is influenced by factors such as upbringing and subsequent education and training. Other studies by Dr Win Wenger, Machado, and Buzan (all leaders in their field) have also proven that you can increase your intelligence by further training.
So onto the 7 methods for a quick increase to your intelligence.
1. Increase the flow of blood to the brain by ensuring you breath deeply. This is the easiest method to give your intelligence a substantial boost. Meditation can help you here. And before I hear many of you turn off, I need to point out that this works simply by helping you breath deeper. For a quick fix try this, close your eyes and concentrate on your breathing, if any thought comes to mind, as they will, block them out as soon as you recognise them and carry on breathing. One way to concentrate is to centre your thinking on one thought and one only. Make this thought the feeling of air passing over your nostrils, doing this will make it much harder for other thoughts to enter your head. Keep this up for a couple of minutes, that's all you need. By the way, you were breathing through the nose, right? Breathing through the mouth tends to be shallower, so avoid it.
2. To quickly get the blood pumping and get oxygen to the brain take a little exercise. Now I'm not talking a 5 mile run, that could be quite difficult when you have to attend your pay increase review in the next ten minutes. But there's nothing stopping you putting on your coat and walking out to your car in the car park or quickly circling your workplace.
3. Get yourself a good posture. If you're sitting then sit up straight, no slouching allowed. Close your mouth, see point 1. If you're standing then stand straight, keep the shoulders square and get yourself a good grounding by planting the feet in a solid position. Just doing this will make you immediately more attentive and focused.
4. For a quick boost (this is not a long term strategy remember) get yourself a cup of coffee. The caffeine encourages the brain to step up a gear and improve its workrate. This is obviously to get you over a short term hurdle, maybe a meeting, a game of chess, or even a game of poker?
5. Do not eat any sugary foods before an important event. This raises the insulin level very quickly and leads to a feeling of sluggishness. Ever feel tired just after lunch? This point actually applies to any simple carbohydrate foods such as potatoes and white flour.
6. Get plenty of good sleep. Get yourself off to bed at a reasonable hour. Do not go to bed late and make up for that by getting up late. Getting up later in the day has been shown to make you more lethargic. Following on from this, if you feel tired during the day then do get up from your desk, and go and sit in the car for a twenty minute powernap. Even ten minutes can be beneficial.
7. Continue to learn. Try to learn one new thing daily, this could be about yourself, your work, your environment. This will help to keep the brain active and help increase memory performance which impacts on intelligence.
We've tried to show you some techniques to quickly raise your intelligence levels. Some take effect immediately: breathing, the right foods, exercise, posture and some a little longer, sleep and ongoing learning.
These all help. However, long term continuing efforts to learn and improve you intelligence will pay dividends and should be a part of your overall plan.

Eight Weeks to Italian Mastery

Learn Italian in just 55 days or less. Can it be done?
Based on my experience, YES. How?
With Rocket Italian, coming from the same people that brought you some of my favorite language learning courses, including Rocket Spanish, Rocket Japanese, and Rocket French. Rocket Italian makes learning Italian so much easier, more fun, and less expensive than just about every other course out there, and best of all, fits all budgets--even stingy buyers' like yours truly!
If you want to learn Italian and speak fluently within 8 weeks, this course CAN get you there.
Let's find out more about this great product:
THE GOOD
Like all the Rocket Language products (French, Spanish, etc.), Rocket Italian boasts 3 "easy learning games". Are they actually easy? Oh yeah! Your Italian listening, vocabulary, and grammar skills are sure to increase dramatically with each of these interactive learning games, which generally work with multiple choice and flash card games. It's a great way of learning anytime anywhere, as all you need is a Net connection. Or an I-Pod: you can download the audio lessons onto any MP3 device.
But the bonuses aren't all that's good: I also really appreciated the easy organisation of the "main course", which has 6 sections, including Greeting, Meeting, Food, and Drink, Travel, Arts and Culture, and a very useful one when you're in Italy: Cucina Italiana - Italian Cooking.
Overall, a pretty organised way of learning Italian fluently, and certainly doable in 8 weeks, as the course promises.
Last but certainly not least, this is all available to you for just $99.99. That's a deal no matter what budget size you have!
THE BAD
As with most of the Rocket Language products, you don't quite learn the business side of the language. If you're wanting to learn Italian for business use, I'd recommend this product only as a compliment to other ones, not as an all-in-one solution.
Likewise (and this is common sense, really), your Italian is only as good as how much you practice it in writing and speech, so Rocket Italian isn't quite as good as having a real-life teacher or tutor. Make sure you practice what you learn with the program, otherwise you'll never truly become fluent.
THE FREE!
This Rocket Language course has a better free course than most. It's actually quite comprehensive; unlike the very short and not-very-helpful Rocket French free course, this one actually details many grammatical rules and vocabulary. On top of that, you get free audio pronunciation guides in each of the six free lessons. So overall, a great free course and one worth trying, if only to learn basic, basic Italian.
MY RECOMMENDATION
Can Italian really be learned in just 55 days?
At first I doubted it, having heard the same tired (and false) promise from dozens of other online products. But after trying out Rocket Italian, I can say that, if you're willing to put in the time, you can become molto bene in Italian no time. It's really up to you to put in the time and practice. The course itself provides an excellent, VERY easy framework.
That said, I'm giving Rocket Italian a BUY recommendation. Hey, if you don't like it, just take advantage of the 8-week moneyback guarantee. If you don't learn Italian the way you would have liked in 8 weeks, just get your money back.
No loss, really. And that's something everyone likes to hear.

Importance of Foreign Language Study

Most Americans only know one language, English. Most of us went through high school and studied Spanish or maybe even French, for 2 or more years. Some of us even studied more during college have as much as 5 or 6 years with a foreign language, but we still couldn't communicate in the language. On the other hand, in most other countries, people know 2, 3, 4, or even more languages. Also, they know the language well enough to communicate.
Why is this? Why does it seem so much more important to other countries to learn a foreign language than in America? What is the importance of foreign language study? Foreign language knowledge has become more important today than it has in the past largely because of globalization. Take business for example. How many items that you buy are from the U.S. and how many are from other countries? Businesses are becoming worldwide expanding beyond the United States.
Globalization has been helped along extensively by the internet and communication. We can send an email to someone in China just as fast as someone next door. Communication between countries, cultures, and languages has become simplified and very simple. What does this have to do with learning a foreign language?
First of all, many countries in Europe and Asia are much smaller than the U.S. and yet the neighboring country speaks a completely different language. They must learn that language if they want to go their and communicate. America is quite large and most people don't find it necessary to learn another language. Now that we are becoming more globalized, it is more important that we begin to learn other languages. If I wanted to go to Italy to visit, it would be very difficult for me to get around if I don't know a word of Italian, especially if I don't even have a phrasebook or dictionary.
The internet has allowed us to get even closer with other cultures that speak other languages. For those who want to communicate with them, they may have no choice but to learn their language. Or, if someone is in business and is taking a trip abroad, they need to know their language in order to communicate. This is why those who go to school for International Business must take a certain amount of credits in a foreign language.
Learning a foreign language may be necessary for some in their careers and for others, they may just want to learn it for fun or for a trip abroad. If you want to become a world traveler, it is not required that you learn every language of every country you visit, but learning the language of just one country will make visiting that country that much more enjoyable. Have you every come across someone who doesn't speak English or at least not very well? It was probably frustrating trying to communicate with them. This is what it would be like if you visited a country where they didn't speak your language.
You may want to learn one more language just to impress your friends or you may want to learn several languages so that you can live abroad. Whatever your reason, learning a foreign language is a great experience and is something you will always be very happy you did.

The IMD economists said the report was based on 2007 data that don't reflect the US' current economic woes. "The big question is whether the United States will be No 1 after this year," project director Stephane Garelli said.

3 Simple Steps to a Powerfully Effective Case Study

When it comes to buying anything--whether it is a product or a service--the first things we all want to know are "What can it do for me, and how effective is it?" Then we want proof, right?
So how do you offer up the kind of proof that turns tire-kickers into paying customers?
Well, the best way is with testimonials.
But if you don't have those, or can't use them in your industry, the next best thing is a case study. And even when you do have testimonials you can use, a case study offers even more information. Plus you can always put the two together for added punch.
Case studies are easy to write once you understand the basic format. And they can be just a few short paragraphs, or a full-fledged white paper up to about 18 pages long. Either way, the same basic rules apply.
The best part is, the information I'm going to share with you today can just as easily be applied to testimonials. And it is the basis for most sales letters too...
How do you write case studies that make people buy?
It really isn't hard. You just need to break it down into this surefire formula.
**Problem (or Pain or Concern) + Solution = Results**
It's that simple.
Let me show you what I mean...
I'll use a short case study from one of my own client projects as an example:
Step #1: Explain the Problems, Pains or Concerns
The idea here is to give readers an idea of why the client bought your product or service. You want this to really hit home with the reader and get them thinking, "That's me!"
So the more you know about your ideal clients--and their wants, needs and problems--the easier it's going to be to write a case study that connects with them.
Example #1: "Because of my outdoor industry background and years of experience doing outdoor sports, MSR (a leading manufacture of outdoor equipment), came to me to write the sales copy for their dealer workbook. At the time, they were getting ready to launch a highly-innovative new Fast & Light backpacking tent collection. And knew this was going to be especially tricky because many of the new tent designs were WAY out-of-the-box.
Some were oddly shaped, a few were floorless tarp shelters, and one was a strange-looking single-wall design. Until recently, most consumers thought fast & light meant bug-filled, damp and uncomfortable (at best). But at that time there was growing mainstream interest in reducing weight.
However, the company just wasn't sure how they were going to get buyers interested in the new designs and keep them from ordering only the more traditional-style tents--especially since tents take up a lot of valuable floor space in a store."
Step #2 Outline the Solution
Now, explain what you did to solve their problems. You don't have to go into every detail. Just show that you came up with a well-thought-out solution to the problems and concerns you outlined above, and why you thought this would be the best way to go.
Example #2: "After much discussion with their tent, sales, and marketing teams, I came up with a sales angle that positioned the tents as steps in a ladder going from more traditional, to hybrid shelter, to tarp-style shelter. So if a buyer ordered the whole line, then customers could choose the right balance of light weight and comfort for them. And the store would have an option to suit everybody."
Step #3 Spell Out the Results
This is the most important part. No one cares about what you do near as much as they care about what you can do for them. Show 'em by explaining the great results you created for someone else.
Example #3: "It worked like a charm. Their Fast & Light collection quickly became the largest and most successful in their tent line, and the Hub tents from that collection have become best sellers. The company also went on to win numerous awards including Backpacker Magazine's Editor's Choice for two of their most innovative (and weird looking) designs."
Step #4 Make it Sell (optional)
Depending on how you use your case study, you could even put in a quick pitch and call to action at the end. If you've written it right your reader may be convinced to hire you to do the same thing for them. You could throw in something like...

Which Internet Marketing Home Study Course Is Right For You?

An internet marketing home study course can be an extremely smart investment if you are looking to make money online and if you are also willing to take massive action to make your dreams a reality.
Does Your Marketing Course Cover Everything You Need To Know?
You should be careful because many courses online are short eBooks or video tutorials that cover only certain aspects of marketing. A good internet marketing course is likely to contain much more in-depth material with a broader view of the topic.
One of the best home study courses I've purchased was Mike Filsaime's Butterfly Marketing course. I made my very first sale from my own website after reading one of Mike's earlier products so I knew that the content he produced was valuable and reliable.
Typically, such courses are more expensive than the $47-$97 ebooks that you'll find on sites like Clicbank, but if you go through and apply the materials, the income potential can be much greater. After using the techniques in the Butterfly Marketing course, I had my first $1,000 day and a $5,000 week. But if you are just starting out, you may not want to spend $1,500+ on a course.
Are You Ready Yet For An In Depth Home Study Course?
But, if you are just starting out, then a full blown internet marketing home study course may not be the right option for you. When I purchased my first high-ticket course I already had a good foundation in internet marketing and I knew I could use the course to help grow my business.
So if you don't have an existing business yet, I wouldn't recommend you spend $1,000 or more on a course as instead of making you money, it may actually cause you to become overwhelmed with the large amount of information on a topic that you're not very familiar with.
Are You Just Starting Out Online? Then Make Sure You...
Get the basics down first! It is possible to start a business online with minimal cost - just a domain and hosting - so there is no need to spend thousands of dollars when you are starting, especially with the wealth of free information that's readily available online.
Great places to start are forums like the warrior forum as you will find many marketing experts who are more than willing to help out new marketers and answer any questions you may have.
There are also good free courses that are designed to help you get started marketing online, and very simple and easy to understand because they're made for beginners. They may not contain all the information of a large internet marketing home study course, but can have all the essentials you need to get started seeing results.

How a Good Study Guide Helps

Today there are a plethora of resources for students preparing to take a particular exam. The question then becomes how to choose the right study guide and how they can help. Some students discount the fact that study guides are proven to increase grades, promote concentration and give tips for test taking. Not all study guides are made equally though and the student should strive to find the best one possible.
Depending on the type of exam will determine the type of study guide that the student needs. If it is a particular exam such the SAT or other college entrance exam there are several to choose from. One of the important factors that students should keep in mind is the fact that the test material must be covered, but the study guide must prepare the individual as well. Several of the study guides only address the information on the test, not the actual preparation of the student. Granted the content of the test is important, but the mental preparation of the student is equally important.
A good study guide will walk a student through the information and also give them some test taking hints that can help them have a positive experience. Tips such as rest before the test, proper nourishment, and concentration should all be addressed. Though many of us believe that we already know some of this information it is important to have those little tips and tricks with us when taking a test. After all many of these tests carry large price tags for us!
The most frequently asked question about testing is what to expect and what type of information is on the test. The unknown seems to be the most anxiety causing factor when taking a test. The student doesn't know whether the test is difficult, tricky or not too bad. Though a study guide will not give detailed information about the test, there are practice questions and other information that will help the student understand what's in store for them on the big day.
Practice tests are a great way to determine whether or not a student is ready for an exam. Some students assume that they are ready and go in to bomb the test, while others feel that they need tons more preparation, yet ace the test. This is a good way to get a feel for the test and address the areas that the student needs to work harder. For example, if a student is taking a multi-part exam they may test and find that only one area needs more preparation. This saves time and allows the student to focus on the weak areas of the test.
One of the least favorites of a study guide is the practice reading. This part may not be fun, but it is very effective and here is why. Students have a habit of speed reading or skimming the surface of the paragraph, book or excerpt. This is a bad habit because not only is critical information missed, but also the student is likely to score poorly on the questions about the reading. This part of the study guide helps the student slow down their reading and helps them practice their skills of identifying what is important in the reading. Practice makes perfect and the more we read, the more that we get out of it.
The writing practice of the study guide is another great way to prepare for an upcoming exam. Taking a topic and building an outline and essay around it is a good way to be prepared for what ever the test may throw your way. Not only do practicing writing skills help beef up the old skills, it also helps the student put their thoughts on paper. Sometimes with computers, word processors and other technological advances in society individuals come to rely on them, therefore allowing their skills to slip. This can be seen with employees, students, workers and the general populations writing skills. When we do not use our writing skills our grammar, spelling and punctuation suffer. So the practice does us good and helps us prepare for the writing portion of any test.
A good study guide helps the student prepare in every way for the exam. It is important that a student take advantage of any opportunity to improve themselves or their grades. Study guides are meant to be used as tools, help set goals and improve the confidence level of the student. Without all of these things students will not perform as well as they possibly could have. Take an opportunity to find a great study guide and start studying early.

Should you try a Hypnosis Home Study Course?

Should you try a Hypnosis Home Study Course?
If you are interested in learning how to practice hypnosis, a hypnosis home study course maybe an economical path towards using your mind more effectively. While it would probably be a shorter route to go to a professional hypnotist, it is usually substantially more expensive. You are essentially trading time for money. If you are willing to patiently experiment and work towards building familiarity, knowledge and skill, you might be surprised at just how much you can learn from the comfort of your own home.
What are the benefits of Hypnosis
In these stressful times, the deep relaxation that hypnosis can provide is a major benefit by itself. As great as relaxation is, it is only one of many rewards hypnosis can yield a diligent practitioner. Many who invest quality time towards self-improvement find hypnosis a key piece of the puzzle. Hypnosis is a method of implanting, beneficial suggestions into the subconscious mind. Implanting suggestions into the subconscious mind can make changes seem more natural and without the white-knuckle willpower that is often required for tough habits. You can learn how to lose weight, quit smoking, increase happiness, become less shy if you put in the time learning hypnosis, even from a hypnosis home study course.
What should you look for in a hypnosis home study course?
In purchasing a hypnosis home study course, you definitely should demand a money-back guarantee. Let's face it, we all learn differently and one course might not meet our needs entirely or satisfactorily. Another reason you should on invest in a program with a money-back guarantee is because some hypnosis home study courses are simply not very good. Ideally you will want audio and visual learning aids to fully experience the feeling of being under hypnosis as you are learning. You may be surprised at how quickly and deeply you can be hypnotized with an hypnotic CD or mp3.

Winning Job Search Case Study

I've been hearing a lot of doom and gloom about the economy and the job market lately. I live in the Detroit area, so that tends to dominate the news and local conversation. But it's not just a local issue. I talk to people from all over the country and everyone's got the same story...it's a down economy and a bad job market.
But could we be buying in to that story a little more than is healthy, realistic or helpful? I think so. In fact, I know so. Because I've been seeing some clients get amazing results in this "bad" job market. And while they are amazing people(!) they aren't any more well known in their field than the average person. They've just chosen a different outlook and search strategy.
So this month's I thought it would be helpful to highlight a 'case study' of a client, Heather, who recently ran a highly successful job search campaign.
Lots of things were stacked against her--she had a very small geographic area she was willing to work in. She worked in a narrow industry that didn't have a lot of big employers in her local geography. Her field is one that, if you read the papers and believe what they say, is considered to have limited opportunities in this market because it's considered 'overhead'. And, she wanted to expand her experience by stretching outside of her existing industry and experience level (into an industry where a lot of emphasis is placed on past experience).
And yet, in 2 short months she went from being handed a layoff notice to having 5 very competitive job offers in her local area to choose between. You read that right! Five Offers. Any one of them would have been considered a great offer. But she actually got to PICK the best of the bunch.
Wanna know her secrets? Here are 5 things she did that I believe led to these unbelievable results:
1. She got really clear about what her ideal target job was. And she built her strategy around that target. She didn't get pulled down by the 'doom and gloom' economy and dumb down her resume to attract just anything. She went in the exact opposite direction. She clearly articulated a very specific type of job in her field and only targeted opportunities that fit. And she prepared herself well so she could showcase how her experience and skills were the perfect fit for the job.
(Coaches note: this strategy works best in a down job market because it allows you to STAND OUT among the thousands of resumes recruiters and employers see every month. Better to appear as tailor-made for one job, than be lost in the sea of 'mediocre' fits for a bunch of jobs!)
2. She relied on both tried and true job search strategies, as well as some newer ones. Yes, she used conventional networking and online at job boards. But she spent most of her time networking with recruiters in her industry and professionals in her field. And she used some new online networking tools like LinkedIn to expand her search. All paid off in leads at a faster and much higher rate than just responding to postings.
(Coaches note: searching and applying to online postings should be about 10% of your effort in a down market. Everyone is doing that. You've got to connect with real people who know about real jobs to get a leg up on the competition.)
3. She focused on more than just her job search. She made sure she stayed balanced and focused on personal priorities as well as the job search. She took time to enjoy her time, and tackle some of those long standing 'to do's' on her personal list. Very energizing !
(Coaches note: let's face it--a job search will never be as fast as you want it to be. There is always a lot of waiting to hear back. And that wait time can be really un-motivating if it is your entire focus. Unmotivated applicants don't get hired! You've got to make it a priority to keep yourself feeling great, even in a prolonged search.)
4. She took consistent action on her search, even when opportunities looked like they were going to come through. She kept sending out the resumes, making the follow up calls, going for interviews and pursuing new leads until the very end. She didn't jump at the first offer that came her way. She negotiated the time to see planned interviews through to the end, so she could make a thoughtful decision.
(Coaches note: Many people start to pull back on their search efforts the minute one opportunity starts getting traction. Big mistake. Stay the course until you've finished! That's how Heather ended up with 5 offers within a few weeks time.)
5. She got support. She didn't try to go this alone. She brought in others--colleagues, her coach (me!) and friends and family to support her and help her remain motivated and objective.

Team Method Guitar Learning

A new amazing method of guitar courses online is now available for everyone to take his/her guitar playing to a new level.
You have probably tried numerous courses but yet you couldn't reach that last step. There was something that they couldn't tell you or maybe there is something about learning playing guitar that they even know themselves.
Ben Edwards has been playing guitar for 15 years and has even toured internationally with his band DegreesK. And for the last four years he has thought people to play guitar online. His idea of online lessons is that one teacher doesn't have all the answers so he made a list of the different skills he was good at and asked his pupils what they wanted to learn. Then he gathered a team of talented guitar experts to teach you every one of their skills. Whatever you want to play their team of guitar experts will help you discover your own guitar hero within yourself.
This is a completely new concept of teaching and is therefore called Team Method Guitar Learning. You learn from a team of guitar professionals who are experts in acoustic guitar, electric guitar, lead guitar, fingerpicking, beginner's techniques, advanced techniques and specialty areas like learning to play by ear.
What will all this cost? Until june 20 you ONLY have to pay $209. This is far less than you'd pay if you bought all this information individually and certainly less than you'd spend to take lessons from multiple teachers, and there's a less expensive ONLINE version if you'd prefer that.
Quotes by pupils:
Hi Ben, I just wanted to thank for that amazing product. You have no idea how much cash you saved me on guitar lessons! I love this kit! It is the best self learned kit I ever had.... I can't wait for your next product. -- Asher
I started playing and it's absolutely just a fantastic product. Biggest asset of it is the video. When you first start playing the guitar sometimes it's just hard to look at paper and start playing without actually either hearing it, or even seeing it. - Mark
When I first started playing, I was stuck. I didn't know what to do, or where to go from there. As soon as I got Team Method Guitar Learning, my guitar playing improved greatly! I actually enjoyed practicing. Thank you for this wonderful product! - Michelle

How Can I Get A MCSE Certification Job?

If you are looking to get a MCSE certification job then you better be prepared to spend a good amount of time studing for your certification exam. If you have already taken the necessary courses and have your certification already, then you need to be prepared to spend much of your time searching for MCSE certification jobs.
A few years ago if you were to open up the newspaper you would have seen a ton of MCSE certification job listings, but this is not the way things are today. There was a massive growth in the IT industry that made many job openings that paid a very nice salary, but all good things must come to an end. Today you need to have a good amount of experience before you can even get a job, and the best way to get the experience that you need is by starting off in a lower position.
Your MCSE certification is not experience, so the best way to go about this little dilemma is by first getting a job in the industry in any position that you can and then moving up the ladder. Once you have about six months of experience then you should begin your MCSE certification training courses. This is a great way to get the training and the exam paid for. So if you haven't received your MCSE certification yet then it's a good idea that you hold off on it for a little while longer and begin searching for a job that is going to give you the necessary experience. You might only be making $10 to $12 an hour to start, but the purpose of taking this job is not necessarily for the money, so just keep that in mind.
If you want to find any MCSE certification jobs then it's important that you follow this method because it will make it much easier for you to land that higher paying salary. I am not saying that it's going to be impossible to find any MCSE certification jobs, but it's not going to be easy to locate them. There's always a chance that a company is willing to hire you without having any hands on experience but you still have your MCSE certification. Some companies do prefer this because then they can mold you to work the way that they want you too, but this is not the most common way that companies hire.
The best thing that you can do is to continue looking for the MCSE certification jobs, but begin looking for any job within the IT industry. I know you may feel as if you are going beneath what you thought you would but you are not. All you are doing is positioning yourself within the field to be in the position to make the great salary that you want.

Study Skills: Top 10 Revising Mistakes

Not having a study environment that is conducive
The emergence of high-technology gadgets such as cellular phones, i-pods, mp3 players, and others has put a strain on the studying habits of the young generation. These have become their constant companions and at times even "study buddies". Studying requires full concentration and revising with these "distractions" lessens the amount of information retained in the memory. Not being equipped with the appropriate study materials and references may also be a cause of distraction.
Not revising previous examinations
When test papers are returned, they are filed for safekeeping, tucked inside lockers, or even thrown in the trash can (these are usually the "low-grade" ones) - completely forgotten. Students would reason out that they are already graded and recorded and therefore would be of no use anymore. This should not be so. There are details in the graded test papers worthy of your attention and may be beneficial for future examinations. Take notice if the questions came from the textbook or the lecture so that you would know where to focus your revision on. Also be on the watch for tricky questions.
Not listening well in class
Listening is a mental form of taking notes. Information is directly passed to the mind through the auditory organ. If you do not listen attentively, you will miss out on pertinent matters. This being the case, you will also be left with few resources to work on when you revise. In order to listen well, you should avoid distractions of any kind.
Some students make the mistake of not paying attention, thinking that they can always "catch up" by reading the textbook. However, many professors like "tweaking" the lesson to add their own version or to put in personal insights, which are likely to come up in the exams.
Not forming a study group
Not all share the same passion for learning. Try as they may, reading, listening to lectures, or taking down notes are just not their cup of tea. A study group in this case is a welcome solution. You get to share whatever little knowledge you may have, and in return receive more than you can handle. This may also pave the way to pay attention to your revising manners so that you may contribute more to the group and make the interactive factor more interesting.
Not having a fit mind and body
More time spent in partying and socializing robs a person of sleep time, and less sleep time means less study time. Excessive caffeine and junk food intake (as what most students are into), on the other hand, is not good for the health. High-protein meals taken frequently in small portions help energize the body better. Sufficient rest and a proper diet, coupled with regular exercise ensure a smooth and stress-free study time.
Mistakes are not to be ashamed of. Neither are they to be taken for granted. They are considered tools for learning because they bring awareness towards what has been done wrong, and therefore become bases for positive actions in the future.

Foreign Students wishing to study in the UK

The amount of foreign students currently studying in Britain is now nearly 1 million. The British government puts a high value on foreign students is doing all it can to attract these students away from other competing educational institutes in other countries. UK universities are renowned for their high academic standards and this reputation is the reason why the UK is the first choice for foreign students. UK Universities are always being evaluated by professional bodies to ensure their teaching is of the highest standards.
Compared to other countries British universities offer value for money. This is due to the time it takes to complete a degree. Typically a degree is spread of very three years rather than four and most masters degree programs can be completed in one year. This makes UK universities very cost effective compared to other countries. The UK also has many financial aid and scholarships with make it possible for many foreign students to enter these educational institutes. Another incentive of studying in the UK is the UK health care system. Whoever the recipient of your email, it is becoming very important that you write email effectively. As you know, by writing effective email, you can save your time, other person’s time and you can win more trust & confidence from the other end.
Give Reply of Email As soon as Possible
More and more people contact each other through email. Even if they mention directly or not, they expect prompt responses. One of the study by Jupiter Research indicates that 35% of customers expect a reply within six hours, an additional 55% expect a response within 24 hours. Though many people focus on response time, content is just as important. The same study indicated that lack of a thorough response (45%) will cause on-line customers to view a company negatively when considering future purchases.
Learn the art of writing Email
Poorly crafted emails will generate additional emails back & forth, which potentially eating up more of your time. Worse, they can drive unnecessary calls to your most costly channel " your phone. And at that point, customers are bound to be angry and frustrated.
Here are some tips for writing email responses that are both thorough and appropriate:
1. Format your response so that it’s easy to read on a screen. Do not write email using very long sentences, which are lengthy horizontally. Each line must be short. Ideally, write 5-6 words in each line only and not more than that.
2. Make sure the subject line is concise and meaningful to the recipient…not just a generic “Response from Marketing Team” But also be careful that it doesn’t look like spam.
3. Have one subject per paragraph. Mention this separately by blank lines, so that its easy to read and understand.
4. Be brief. Use as few words as possible to convey your message. More is not better when it comes to email. An email is not perceived as an electronic letter.
5. Use simple, declarative sentences. Write for a third or fourth grade audience, particularly if you’re creating templates that are sent automatically. You do not know the education level of your sender or the sender’s level of comfort with the English language.
6. Be sensitive to the tone of the original email. If the sender is upset because of an error on your part, acknowledge the error. Clearly state what you are doing to correct the situation.
7. Make sure you answer all the questions posed in the original inquiry. A partial answer frustrates the sender and results in additional contacts. It also makes the company sending the response look inept.
8. Make it clear what actions you will be taking next and when the writer can expect the next contact from you.
9. Don't ask for an order number/case number or any old information which you remember out of your mind only when one is included in the original emai sounds pretty basic, but sometimes people miss very obvious info in email.
10. Don't just tell the sender to go to your web site. In many cases, they have already been to the web site and couldn't find the answers they were looking for. If you want them to go back to the web site, provide a direct link to the exact information the reader needs.

Financial Aid for students planning to study abroad.

For students going abroad for higher studies, it is imperative to provide proof of sufficient funds (atleast for first year expenses). Mostly all universities require sufficient proof of financial aid for meeting expenses such as application cost , tuition fees, accommodation and living, health insurance, transportation etc. Therefore unless financial aid can be arranged , studying abroad may not be possible at all.
If you are an Indian student planning to go abroad for education, you can consider the various sources for financail aid apart from your/parents' savings. A main options are as follows -
Bank Loans
Various banks such as Bank of India, Andhra Bank, Canara Bank, State Bank of India, Axis Bank, HSBC Bank, Indian Bank etc. provide education loans for studying abroad.
Depending upon the loan amount, certain percentage of security (such as NSE shares, house mortgage etc.) is required and interest is charged accordingly. Recently, most banks usually do not ask for security or collateral for a loan up to Rs. 4 lacs. The interest rates would generally not exceed the Prime Lending Rates (PLR). Certain banks also accept a third party guarantee instead of security. (But this is usually for loans between 4 lacs and 7.5 lacs).
To avail of bank loans, the canadidate needs to fulfil certain conditions such as he must be an Indian resident, confirmation of admission and requirement of minimum annual income. The repayment of loan generally starts after six months of course completion or one-month of job (if employed immediately after course completion) and the entire amount has to be repaid in 5 to 7 years (from the first payment).
Trust Loans
Trust Loans are either free or charge a lower interest rate (2 to 4 %). The loan amount is variable and is usually up to Rs. 1.5 lacs. However, they generally have a deadline by which you must submit the loan application forms. Few of the well known trusts are- J.N. Tata Endowment (soft loans between Rs. 50,000 and Rs.1.5 lacs), Sahu Jain Trust, Mariwala Trust, K.C. Mahindra Education Trust and R.D. Sethna Scholarship Fund.
Fellowships
Fellowships are comapritively difficult to acquire due to stiff competition. The popular ones are- Inlaks Scholarships, Aga Khan Foundation, Rotary Ambassadorial Scholarships and AT & T Leadership Awards (only for U.S.).
Apart from these, you can also acquire financial assistance abroad by way of University Fundings - Scholarship/Fellowships/Assistantships, U.S. Banks Student Loans (for US) and other sources.
One must remember that most universities provide financial aid to overseas students on merit and not on need. It is easier to avail monetary assistance for graduate programs than undergraduate courses. The aid amount varies for different universities and fields of specialization. Also note that it is easier to receive financial assistance from U.S. and U.K. universities than those in Australia, New Zealand or Canada.
In case of undergraduates, Aid forms from the institute as well as the Foreign Student's Financial Aid Form has to be submitted along with a bank statement. Forms may ask details about your personal and total (family) annual income, average living expenses, asset details etc.
Postgraduate students must mention about financial aid requirement in their application forms. Meritorious students receive financial assistance most commonly in the form of tuition waivers, scholarship or fellowship and assistantships (a cash stipend to take care of their expenses and in return they work for certain hours a week- either teaching or research based).
Please note that Indians usually are able to manage some funding after one or two semesters.
A U.S. Bank loan is among the best alternatives for MBA students. When applying for bank loans in US, a co-signer (US citizen or permanent resident) is required. However, several banks will waiver the co-signer requirement. The relevant information will be available on the university website.
Ensure that you go through the university information thoroughly and understand the terms and conditions properly.
